Kiko is an active, happy 2 year old girl with a sad story to tell. Kiko was found as an emaciated stray and taken to the shelter in Palm Beach County where she was adopted by someone who didn’t take care of her. She spent most of her days locked in a crate. She escaped from that home, only to be brought back to the shelter and sent back to the same owner.

A “good Samaritan” saw the sad situation she was in and spoke to the owner about taking Kiko and finding her a good home. Thankfully, the owner gave Kiko to him, but he couldn’t keep her because he already had a house full of kids, cats and dogs. He then contacted EGRR.

He told us that she is great with kids and other dogs. She wanted to play with his cats, but they were not interested. She never showed any signs of aggression towards anyone or anything.

As soon as Kiko came into our program, she was thoroughly examined by our vet, who said she is perfectly healthy, just skinny. So, we put her on a program to gain some weight.

Kiko is still very thin. Her thyroid and her bloodwork are perfect. We’ve increased the amount of food she is getting and put her on a food that has a high protein, fat and calorie content. She’s gained a little, but not as much as we’d expected.

We also took her to stay with our trainer, where she is learning her commands and learning how to swim and play nicely with other dogs.

We’d like to see Kiko go to a home with active adults and kids, but no children under the age of 8. A “fur-sibling” would be great, as would a pool. A fenced yard is a necessity.
