One of our volunteers in Homestead called us about two lovely Golden Retrievers who were pushed from a car and left to fend for themselves. The dogs never strayed from the place where they were dumped, and kept looking for their owners to return. Of course, they never did.
Fortunately, a neighbor fed the dogs and provided them with water. The neighborhood kids visited and played with them. (What a horrible way to find out that they were good with kids!) Everyone was afraid that they would leave the spot where they had been dumped, so a former EGRR adopter took them to her vet, had them wormed, vaccinated and treated for fleas. She then brought them to her home and named them Stella and Stanley.
It takes a village to rescue dogs. Other volunteers drove to Homestead to bring the dogs to our vet in Boca. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, it is easily an hour and a half each way.
Stella and Stanley are lovely dogs; as sweet as can be. She is about 5 yrs old and on the small side, weighing in at only 41 lbs. He is about 3, and is the size of a normal male Golden retriever. They are totally and completely bonded; Stanley follows Stella’s lead on everything. If the vet didn’t think she had never had a litter, it would appear as if he were her son (but he is not).
The good news is they are completely healthy, and their blood work is perfect. Both are intact and will be spayed/neutered by our vet before they go to their new home.
Stella and Stanley both love people, as most Goldens do. Their happiest moments are when they are being loved on by humans. However, they don’t seem to like other dogs.
EGRR is looking for a home for them with experienced dog owners with no other animals in the home. If you think you have the time and the room in your home and your heart for these two wonderful Goldens, please let us know.
